Be aware and watch out for the signs and symptoms to help identify it early in children.2,14

These symptoms may appear in any order and your child may not experience all of them. If you observe these symptoms in your child  and they start worsening, please visit your doctor immediately. ​​​​​​​

Effects of the disease

If untreated, meningococcal meningitis is fatal in 50% of cases2 and may leave survivors with permanent and long-term disabilities. It is associated with persistent neurological defects2,11,22, particularly among infants and young children.22
